Searching for a reliable nomad alternative for your next international trip? You are not alone. Many travelers who have used Nomad eSIM are now exploring other options — and iWanteSIM has emerged as a strong contender in the travel esim space. This guide compares both providers across five key dimensions so you can make an informed decision for single-country and multi-country adventures.
Why Travelers Are Looking Beyond Nomad
Nomad eSIM built a solid reputation offering esim plans for travelers heading to popular destinations. But the market has evolved. Newer providers like iWanteSIM now offer competitive pricing across 200+ countries, often starting from just $1.00. Whether you need a cheap esim for a weekend city break or a global esim for a month-long multi-country journey, it pays to compare before you buy.

1. Regional Plan Pricing
Price is usually the first thing travelers compare. Here is how iWanteSIM and Nomad stack up on regional pricing:
- iWanteSIM: Plans start from $1.00 for single-country eSIMs. Regional bundles (e.g., Europe eSIM, Asia eSIM, Africa eSIM) typically range from $3.00 to $30.00 depending on data allowance and validity period. No hidden charges.
- Nomad: Plans generally start around $4.50 for smaller data packages. Regional plans cover 30-50+ countries and range from approximately $10 to $50. Data-only plans with 7-30 day validity.
For budget-conscious travelers, iWanteSIM's lower entry point makes it an attractive nomad alternative — especially if you only need a small data package for a short trip. You can avoid roaming charges entirely with either provider, but iWanteSIM tends to cost less for equivalent data amounts at the entry level.
2. Country Coverage Count
Coverage matters enormously for multi-country trips. Here is the breakdown:
| Provider | Countries Covered | Regional Plans | Global Plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| iWanteSIM | 200+ | 8 regions (Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, North America, Middle East, Oceania, Caribbean) | Yes — global eSIM |
| Nomad | 100+ | Limited regional bundles (mainly Europe, Asia, Americas) | Yes — worldwide plan |
iWanteSIM covers significantly more countries — over 200 compared to Nomad's roughly 100+. This matters for travelers visiting less common destinations in Africa, the Caribbean, or the Middle East. If your itinerary includes countries like Kenya, Jordan, or Trinidad and Tobago, iWanteSIM's broader coverage gives you peace of mind without needing to switch providers mid-trip.
For regional coverage, iWanteSIM also offers dedicated pages for each region, making it easy to find the right international esim plan for your specific route.
3. App Experience and Ease of Use
Both providers offer mobile apps and web-based purchasing, but the experience differs:
iWanteSIM App Experience
- Clean, intuitive interface with country search and region filters
- Instant QR code delivery for eSIM installation
- Web-based account management — no mandatory app download required
- Plan details clearly show data allowance, validity, and coverage before purchase
Nomad App Experience
- Polished mobile app with trip-planning features
- In-app plan recommendations based on destination
- Account dashboard for managing multiple eSIM profiles
- Customer support chat available within the app
Both experiences are solid. Nomad's app is slightly more feature-rich with trip-planning tools, while iWanteSIM keeps things streamlined and web-accessible — useful if you do not want to download another app. For travelers who value simplicity, iWanteSIM's no-frills approach is a compelling reason to consider it as a nomad alternative.
4. Data Speed and Network Quality
Speed can make or break your travel connectivity. Both providers partner with local carriers in each destination, but performance varies by country:
- iWanteSIM: Connects to primary tier-1 carriers in each country (e.g., Docomo in Japan, Vodafone in the UK, Telcel in Mexico). Supports 4G/LTE and 5G where available. Typical speeds range from 10-50 Mbps in urban areas, depending on local network conditions.
- Nomad: Also partners with major carriers per region. Speeds are generally comparable — 5-40 Mbps in well-covered areas. Some users report throttling after high data usage on unlimited plans.
In practice, both providers deliver travel data speeds that are sufficient for navigation, messaging, social media, and video calls. The real differentiator is coverage reliability in rural or less-visited areas, where iWanteSIM's broader carrier partnerships in 200+ countries can be an advantage.

5. Which Provider Wins for Different Trip Types?
Single-Country Trips
If you are visiting one country for a short trip (3-14 days), both providers work well. iWanteSIM has the edge on price — single-country plans from $1.00 are among the cheapest in the market. For example, if you need the best esim for Japan or any single destination, iWanteSIM's country-specific plans are hard to beat on value. Nomad also offers single-country plans, though typically at a slightly higher price point.
Winner for single-country trips: iWanteSIM — lower starting price and broader country selection.
Multi-Country Trips
For multi-country itineraries (e.g., a Euro trip through France, Italy, and Greece, or a Southeast Asia loop through Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia), regional or global plans are the way to go. iWanteSIM offers 8 dedicated regional bundles plus a global plan covering 200+ countries. This makes it easy to pick a single plan that works across your entire route.
Nomad also offers regional and global plans, but with coverage in roughly 100+ countries, some less-visited destinations may not be included. If your trip includes off-the-beaten-path locations in Africa or South America, iWanteSIM's wider reach is a significant advantage.
Winner for multi-country trips: iWanteSIM — broader regional coverage and a true global plan.
Long-Term / Digital Nomad Trips
For extended trips lasting weeks or months, data limits and plan validity become critical. Both providers offer 30-day plans, but iWanteSIM's regional bundles often provide better per-GB value for long stays. If you are a slow traveler hopping between countries, the global eSIM from iWanteSIM eliminates the need to buy a new plan every time you cross a border.
Winner for long-term travel: iWanteSIM — better value on extended regional and global plans.
